Delighting in Weakness

Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong. – 2 Corinthians 12:10, NKJV

It’s countercultural to show your weaknesses. Even veiled attempts to find out your weaknesses during job interviews don’t expect complete honesty. If you were truly honest instead of spinning a weakness to be a strength, your interviewer would likely be completely shocked. And yet Paul is bragging about weakness in today’s verse. Why? The answer can be found back in verse 9.

And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. – 2 Corinthians 12:9, NKJV

God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness. Why? We can’t take any of the credit if we do something completely outside our ability and strength. Next time you’re in a situation you can’t handle, rejoice because it’s a situation God can display His great power and get all the glory.
